Love is a Beautiful Thing

I had the privilege of being one of the few humans to attend my sister’s wedding (and was the official witness!). It felt very last minute, but I also didn’t know about it until yesterday when she called me at work to ask if I would like to attend.

Watching my sister’s relationship with Gabbi evolve has been some sort of a miracle. My sister, like me, tends to be all over the place, anxious (like woah), high strung, determined, and easily stressed. Gabbi is like a breath of fresh air and watching the 2 together gave me hope that somewhere out there I might one day find “my Gabbi”.

People have asked me from time to time, “Is it weird that your sister is dating (now marrying) another girl?!” I get that a lot of people have a hard time wrapping their head around this concept and that homosexuality is a very touchy, taboo and political subject that I do not wish to get involved in, but, here is how I see it…

My sister fell in love and the person she happened to fall in love was a beautiful, Brazilian girl.

Most people have a “type” they date. My sister’s “type” has always been, well, human. I’ve always admired the fact that she seemed to be able to see right into people’s souls, right through their outward shell. This goes for anyone she ever came/comes in contact with. She is one of the most non-judgmental people I know, and it’s surprising considering the environment we grew up in with our education. {That’s a whole other story for another blog}

Back on track…

Em, Gabbi and their 2 doggies showed up a little late to Edwin Warner Park for their wedding (this was not surprising). My sister seemed a bit flustered, while Gabbi was as calm as ever. Our parents couldn’t be there since it was during the week and they were in PA for my mom’s job, but luckily technology has come a long way and we were able to video chat the entire ceremony.

After driving/walking around, they finally found “the spot”. I got ready with my camera, while Miles held the doggies and got ready with his camera.

The ceremony began. I was deeply moved as I watched my sister make a promise to her partner in life. The love between those 2 is unreal. They truly compliment one another and I couldn’t have imagined anyone better for my sister than Gabbi.

I was thankful to have such a handsome date by my side, who helped me out with pictures, puppy hurdling, and emotional support as we were spectators at one of the biggest events in my sister’s life.

After the ceremony (and signing the appropriate documents), we went around to take some more pictures for the photo albums before getting ready for a yummy dinner at the Melting Pot in honor of the newly weds.

Dinner was, of course, amazing. About 3 hours flew by before we even realized it! Miles and I stayed with the babies, so their mommies could enjoy their first night together as a married couple.

Life is all about balance and finding a partner is much more challenging than just picking someone off the street. We all deserve someone that makes us the best possible version of ourselves. I am still getting to know Gabbi, but Emily is a much better, calmer, happier person when Gabbi is around. It’s inspirational to see this and I can only hope that one day I find someone to bring me that much joy.
